This Day in History: Senator Joseph McCarthy charges that communists have infiltrated the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the atomic weapons industry. Although McCarthy’s accusations created a momentary controversy, they were quickly dismissed as mere sensationalism from a man whose career was rapidly slipping away.
Enter John Owen Brennan, fifth Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. According to Mr. Brennan, he cast his vote in the 1976 presidential election for Gus Hall, the Communist Party USA candidate. This was during the Cold War, which would “officially” end with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991.
Perhaps the CIA believed that young John Brennan, (age twenty-one in 1976), was simply a youthful, left-leaning idealist when he cast that vote for Communism. Perhaps they thought his interest could be exploited for agency gain.
Whatever The Company’s rationale, this fact remains: not only did a communist political supporter gain access to the CIA, but eventually made it to the top slot (after converting to Islam) during the presidential tenure of one Barack Hussein Obama. Of course, this is hardly surprising given POTUS 44’s ties to radical Marxists and communists his entire life, and his expressed political affinity for Muslims. Birds of a feather?
It just may be, however, that Mr. Brennan’s communist chickens have come home to roost. Made possible by an arrogant coup attempt that used classic projection to accuse Donald Trump of what those involved had actually done to destroy Trump’s candidacy and presidency: collusion with an evil Russia bent on undermining American democracy. That’s some kind of irony.
Somewhere, Joe McCarthy is laughing his tail gunner off.
